What is a Root Canal Treatment?

Our dentist recommends root canal treatment in cases of severe infection, injury or other damage to a tooth. We use root canal treatment to save your tooth and avoid tooth loss. Root canal treatment is used to treat the center, or the pulp of a tooth that is inflamed, infected or dead. The pulp is a soft substance consisting of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes, such as injury to the tooth, deep decay or trauma from repeated dental procedures.

Symptoms of infection include visible injury or swelling, sensitivity to temperature, pain when chewing, discoloration, or pain in the tooth and gums. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact Haake Family Dental for a consultation.

What to Expect During Root Canal Treatment

Despite their bad reputation, root canal treatment is a common and relatively easy procedure. Root canal treatment involves removing the pulp from the tooth chamber and canals. We then clean the canals with a disinfecting solution to flush out the infection. During your root canal treatment, we may provide local anesthesia or sedation to help make your experience as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Be sure to discuss your sedation options with our team. Your comfort is our first priority.

After treatment, we may place a temporary filling to protect your tooth until your restoration is complete. In most cases, our dentist will place a crown on the tooth to restore the look, strength and function of your tooth. Your tooth may feel sensitive for the first few days. This discomfort may be relieved with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medications, as directed. Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until you have your full restoration. If a problem occurs, contact Haake Family Dental.

I have been going to Dr. Haake for a really long time and have always had a really good experience. I always get really great dental hygienists and love that you can pick a Pandora station before they start. I will continue to refer and will be taking my little boys to see Dr. Haake once they are of age to go!

Excellent experience from walking in the door to leaving. I had a 10:50 appointment and at 10:50 I was in the chair. The staff and dentist do their best to make your visit a positive experience. Both Dr. Haake and Dr. Boydston made my 2 visits there a great experience.
