Sedation Dentistry in Overland Park, KS

At Haake Family Dental, we are dedicated to making your care as comfortable and stress-free as possible. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry to help you relax during your next visit. Depending on your needs, we can offer oral sedation, laughing gas, or IV sedation.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you relax during treatment for a more comfortable dental care experience. It can be used to help you relax during a variety of procedures and is recommended for patients who experience dental anxiety. Our dentist may also recommend sedation options for patients with health conditions that make it difficult for their muscles to relax or affect their care in other ways.

In addition to local anesthesia, we offer oral sedation, laughing gas and intravenous (IV) sedation options. Your sedation is closely monitored by experienced dental professionals who work to ensure your safety and comfort. Be sure to discuss your sedation options with our team to see if sedation dentistry is right for you.

What are the Benefits of Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry offers many benefits to meet your individual needs. Sedation allows your body to relax and can help reduce any dental anxiety you may experience. This can help increase the effectiveness of local anesthesia. Sedation dentistry reduces the sensation of passing time. This can be very useful if you need complex or multiple treatments in a single sitting. It also prevents your muscles from stiffening or becoming sore due to spending extended periods of time in one position.

What is IV sedation?

IV sedation is generally used with shorter treatment sessions. The effects are immediate and may cause you to feel as though you slept through the treatment. You may feel groggy when the IV is stopped, but this will fade over the next few hours. You will need someone to provide your transportation on the day of your procedure. While there are no lingering aftereffects, the sedative effects of these options can take up to 24 hours to fully diminish.

Is Sedation Rentistry Right for Me?

Sedation dentistry can help patients with severe dental anxiety and other conditions more easily receive the care they need. However, sedation dentistry isn’t recommended for all patients. Your safety is our top priority. At your appointment, be sure to tell us:

  • Any prescription medications or over-the-counter medications you are taking
  • Any herbal or nutritional supplements you are using
  • Any allergies you have, particularly medication reactions
  • Any health conditions you have
  • Any questions or concerns you may have about your treatment or about sedation dentistry

I have been going to Dr. Haake for a really long time and have always had a really good experience. I always get really great dental hygienists and love that you can pick a Pandora station before they start. I will continue to refer and will be taking my little boys to see Dr. Haake once they are of age to go!

Excellent experience from walking in the door to leaving. I had a 10:50 appointment and at 10:50 I was in the chair. The staff and dentist do their best to make your visit a positive experience. Both Dr. Haake and Dr. Boydston made my 2 visits there a great experience.
